My musical journey

Hi everyone,

Like many people, music has always been central to my life and I have been lucky that my engagement with music has always been as an amateur. This has had two consequences, firstly despite some brief periods of what seemed to me virtuoso performance I’ve never reached what might be termed mastery at any instrument and secondly my passion for music has never faded or suffered the pressures of having to play for a living.

So through this rather eclectic meandering random walk through musical realms I have learned to varying degrees and can thrash out a tune or two on: a ukulele, piano, classical guitar, electric guitar, blues harp, flute, trumpet, tenor sax, (bari, alto and soprano as well), various synthesizers, cello, hurdy gurdy, Irish harp, mandolin, tablas, dumbek, djembe orchestral gong, bagpipes and finally – – – the Anglo concertina.

Well that’s not entirely true. I can sort of get a tune or two out of my Anglo, which is the point really. I am going to be discovering the Anglo as I go and share my experiences.

Learn from my mistakes

Of course you can choose to make the same mistakes that I make or not. And right now I can’t promise any earth-shattering revelations as to how you can become a virtuoso Anglo player in a few days. I’m quite sure I will not achieve that. I digress.

My goal here is to help you find, fix, maintain and learn to play the Anglo concertina.

I’m going to share with you where to buy, where to get parts or repairs, where to find lessons, tutors and all that good stuff. OK I have to admit my goal is to learn to play the hornpipe at something close to rapid speed with decent proficiency. And once I get that down, I would like to try the same in 5/4 time.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions etc, please leave below. And thanks for reading this far (you must be a brave soul indeed!)

All the best,

Andy
